“Better coaches build better people.”
I didn't know what I didn't know. I started my coaching career as a college freshman. I helped with a program that had 3 total wins over the previous three years. Fast forward 3 years, and we finished 14-1. At 22, I took over a big program with a storied tradition. I ran it straight into the ground. I didn't know what I didn't know. My ego got in the way, and finally, when I looked in the mirror, I started being honest with myself. When I stopped being transactional and started focusing on becoming transformational, everything changed.
Process over outcome. Greatness is in the details, and learning to focus on those details helps coaches jump levels. As a coach becomes more transformational and less transactional, the whole experience improves.
Head of program for the entire district/community. Ran our youth program with over 100 kids that included three experience levels. Was involved in placing middle school coaches and creating mission and vision. High School program coach who carried an average roster of 55-60 kids.
